"Many times these retention areas are an eyesore within a development but this storm water retention/water quality area is anything but!"
This four-acre park serves as water retention and water quality area for the Pinnacle Development, as well as a regional sediment control lake. "Many times these retention areas are an eyesore within a development but this storm water retention/water quality area is anything but," said Shari Brown, Director of Economic and Community Development for Bristol, Tennessee.
Renta Urban Land Design provided master planning, site planning, landscape architecture, grading, hardscape design, irrigation design, and ADA accessibility for Pinnacle Park. The park features an accessible walkway, a wooden fishing pier, benches, a waterfall, a fountain and other amenities.
Terry Napier, Director of Parks and Recreation said, “This is a great addition to our parks system. Pinnacle Park is our 27th park – and what a beautiful one, with all of its water features, landscaping and fish habitat. We are thrilled to have worked with Steve Johnson, President of Johnson Commercial Developers, who had an unbelievable vision for this park. Our hope is everyone will visit the park. The look will change as the seasons change, but one thing that won’t – the serenity it provides. Whether just taking a walk or sitting by the lake to reflect, it is a great setting in the middle of a bustling area.”
The pond was designed to be aesthetically pleasing and is stocked with fish. It is equipped with 40’ high waterfall, fountain, and multiple bubblers for aeration and oxygenation systems, which creates a healthy fish habitat. Without aeration and oxygenation, Johnson said, the fish likely would not survive. All plantings on the site are native to the region, and all irrigation is from the lake. The dam and overflow structures are hidden under the boardwalks and piers on the site. All disturbed hillsides are planted with native wildflower seeds and a mix of forest understory and shade trees from the region.
