NESMITH PARK
The park was originally developed in the 1970s using a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant to provide a city pool. After the pool fell into disrepair and was condemned, LWCF guidelines required a water-related feature to remain on site or the funds to be repaid. Due to the high cost of renovation, the city chose to replace the pool with a splash pad. RULD worked closely with the City Parks and Recreation Board and School Board to create a master plan that met the needs of the high school baseball team, nearby elementary school, and surrounding neighborhood. The park now includes a regulation baseball field, pickleball and basketball courts, playground, parking, community garden, and splash pad. The updated master plan also helped secure additional Land and Water funding.
