RED MOUNTAIN THEATRE

Red Mountain Theatre, a nonprofit with more than 40 years in Birmingham, established its permanent home on a full city block in the vibrant Parkside District near Railroad Park from a repurposed industrial site. RULD delivered a cohesive, high-impact design that unifies the block while navigating complex city requirements. The site features a dynamic entry plaza, courtyard, integrated parking, bike lanes, and shaded streetscapes, anchored by a sculptural bioswale that manages stormwater and softens the urban edge. Historic rail lines uncovered during construction were incorporated into the plaza, tying the design to the site’s industrial roots. Red Mountain Theatre was awarded Birmingham Business Journal's 2022 Top Talent Award and USITT's Top Honors for Architecture Award.
