Fort Payne, AL

WILLS CREEK GREENWAY

This vision transforms Big Wills Creek into an 11-mile greenway and linear park through Fort Payne. The concept focuses on stream restoration, invasive species removal, flood-resilient open spaces, and improved public access. The proposed greenway will connect Fort Payne City Lake to DeKalb Regional Medical Center with multi-use trails, canoe and kayak access, passive recreation areas, and educational signage. It links neighborhoods, industry, and amenities while encouraging alternative transportation, public health, and economic growth. The project was awarded a Land and Water Grant and won an Alabama ASLA award.
